Paragraph that details some of the information about this church.
At the beginning of the 20th Century in France, an anti-clerical movement began which led the parish priest at Rogersville, Father Marcel Francois RIchard, to invite the Cistecrian Monks (commonly known as the Trappists) ob Bonnecombe, France to come to Rogersville and set up their Monastery here. The offer was accepted and in October 1902, the first 6 monks arrived in New Brunswick and took possession of the land deeded to them by Father RIchard, In 1903, with the approval of Bishop Barry of Chatham, the Monastery was incorporated by and Act of the New Brunswick Legislature. WIthin a year of the arrival of the first monks, a monastery was built.
After approximately two decades of occupancy, the Abbey in Bonnecombe, France was threatening closure of the Rogersville community. The Dom of the Abbey travelled to France and staved off the threat. By 1924, the Monks were allowed to build a permanent monastery. This monastery was built and occupied before the end of the 1920's.
Over the years the monks worked at various ventures to keep the monastery alive - a cement block factory, a quarry, cultivation of brussel sprouts, a piggery, a chicken hatchery and Monocade (health products).
In 1969 the monastery was reincorporated by and Act of the NB Legislature,
Today the Abbey is still a vibrant part of the Rogersville community and sell several of their products at Mr. Tomato in Rogersville.
It should be noted the the Cistercian Nuns (Trappistines) from Lyon, France came to Rogersville in 1904 are and still here.
