Before 1900 the Catholics in Covedell attended church in Neguac. In the early 1900’s the community petitioned Bishop Thomas Barry of Chatham for a church of their own and in 1905 permission was granted. The construction began in 1908 and was completed in 1910. The new church was named St George’s to honour the first pastor, Rev George Gauvin.<br /> <br /> The original school in Covedell became the front of a new church hall. This remained the church hall until a new hall was built in 1985.<br /> <br /> What started out in 1907 as a church for the English speaking people in the area, under the Diocese of Chatham, became a French church under the Diocese of Bathurst.<br /> <br /> Church was closed in 2019.<br /> <br />
