The congregation of St. Matthew’s Presbyterian Church was established in 1910; the church building was erected in 1912, on land donated by William and Pearl Johnston. The church was dedicated July 5, 1914. In 1925, when the United Church of Canada was formed, St. Matthew’s remained a Presbyterian Church and became part of the New Jersey-Tabusintac Charge. In 1940, a cemetery was opened on church property. William and Pearl Johnston’s daughter, Vera McMackin, donated additional land to the church in 1976 and a church hall was added to the back of the church that same year. Up until 1925, student ministers served Millbank, Bartibogue, Oak Point and Russellville.<br /> <br />
