Church history

Paragraph that details some of the information about this church.
Land was given, in 1876 by John Corcoran for the building of a mission chapel in Upper Bartibogue on the Russellville Road. The people in this area were a dozen or so miles away from St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church at the mouth of the Bartibog River, and travel was difficult in 1876. The priest at St. Peter and St. Paul’s helped the people of the area build this chapel and, when the chapel opened for worship in 1877, there were living quarters for the pastor, Rev. William Morriscy. He often spent time there ministering to the people.
In the 1980’s a new highway was being built to Bathurst and the chapel, being in the path, was about to be demolished. A highway engineer, Jim Scott, made arrangements to have it moved to the St. Peter and St. Paul site where it now has become a museum, and a memorial to Father Morriscy and the families of Upper Bartibogue.
