Paragraph that details some of the information about this church.
The Whitney Baptist Church is the oldest Baptist Church in New Brunswick. It was established in 1819 on the South side of the Miramichi River at South Esk (near Williamstown). A church was built but was destroyed by fire in 1845. The congregation continued to grow especially in Strathadam and Whitney:so when a new church was built in 1855, it was built in Whitney. But before the new church was built there was a major exodus of families to the Little South West where another Baptist congregation was formed.
A new church, which stands today, was started in the 1880’s.
The Whitney Church and the Newcastle Church were at one time, one field. Later the South West Church and Whitney comprised one field; later these four churches separated to form separate churches.
