Church history

Paragraph that details some of the information about this church.
Between 1791 - 1797 the first Presbyterian Church on the Miramichi was built at Wilson's Point. Later a Presbyterian Church was built in Newcastle; that church was St. James Presbyterian. The cornerstone was laid in 1825, but the Miramichi Fire of 1825 destroyed whatever had been built. The church was started again in 1828 and completed in 1830.
Following the formation of the United Church of Canada in 1925, those parishioners of St. James Presbyterian who wanted to remain Presbyterian began holding services in St. Andrew's Parish Hall. This continued for nine years until 1934 when the Sons of Temperance Hall on Prince William Street (now Newcastle Blvd.), a building built in 1856, was purchased. Since the building was in excellent condition, the congregation renovated it throughout.
Throughout the years, St. James has been associated with Ferguson/Derby and Grace/Millerton in a three point pastoral charge at various times.
