Church history

Paragraph that details some of the information about this church.
In the late 1970’s St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Newcastle began, once a month, to have mass in French for the French-speaking parishioners of the church. When the French Community Center (Carrefour Beausoleil) was built in 1986, the people who used this center began to hold church services in the auditorium of this building. In 1986 an administrator was appointed for Communauté Chrétienne; this priest became the administrator of the Paroisse de l’Ascencion, Beaverbrook, as well.
It was agreed that the administrator would be appointed alternately every five years from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saint John and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bathurst (Beaverbrook at this time was part of the Bathurst Diocese and Communauté Chrétienne part of Saint John).
In 2001 the Bathurst Diocese announced that it would no longer send a priest and stated that the Diocese felt that the communities were more a part of Miramichi than of Bathurst. Thus Father Stanislas Paulin was sent to the Miramichi from the Saint John Diocese to assess the situation; he is still here in 2009.
In 2009 Beaverbrook Parish was transferred back to Saint John and Father Paulin became pastor of Ascencion and administrator of Communauté Chrétienne.
Plans are now afoot to unite Ascencion and Communauté Chrétienne into a pastoral unity.
